Don't DisMyAbilities, Inc. (DDMA)
Accessibility Intervention
Enhance accessibility for all
Service Description
DDMA acts as an intervener when referrals are received from disabled community members in Texas (or their family) regarding business that have significant accessibility issues in violation of the ADA. DDMA verifies the business owner and sends them a certified letter on the person's behalf, notifying the business of the issue (no parking, bad ramp, bathroom stalls, etc.). The letter includes information about ADA standards and tax credits that can be claimed to improve accessibility, plus it details the benefits of having an independent Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) create a remediation plan if the problems are serious enough. Our goal is to give voice to community members to affect real change in the businesses they need and want to access. This approach also gives the business the opportunity to correct the problem themselves, before possible legal action is initiated by the person.
